BRUNO THE BEAST

A few days ago, I enlisted my husband's help, and took Bruno on an adventure to Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Bruno is a 40KG, 7 month old rottweiler mix puppy who knows his basic commands. Due to his size, I was worried to walk him alone, simply due to the fact that he could pull me around if he wanted to, but I was happily surprised to be proven wrong; he was a dream!

Bruno was brought to the rescue when his previous owner simply could not manage his size and power. He is a respectful pup, but he is quite large, and he does have a lot of power in that adorable body. He knows basic commands, is not overly energetic, is great in the car, and with some basic training will be an amazing dog!

Without further due meet Bruno, try not to fall in love with his gorgeous orange eyes!

Our adventure night came, we packed up the camera, put on our walking shoes, and headed to the rescue to pick up our buddy for the night.

When we picked him up, he willingly jumped into the car, sat as we buckled him in, and immediately hung his head out the car. He was quite the clown, often greeting people in other cars as we were stopped at red lights.

When we arrived at Fish Creek, he waited until we unbuckled him, but as soon as we hit the trails his nose was working in over drive. He stopped every 5 steps to smell something different, watched the birds as they flew by, and listened to people talking in the distance.

We chose to take the path less traveled, which involved walking through some higher grass, and down by the water but as you will see none of us minded.

I've always been one that has been nervous around bigger dogs and their power, but he was such a gentle walker, especially for a puppy!

Almost to the water!

At this point we weren't sure if Bruno was even a fan of  the water, but I'll let you draw your own conclusions with the next few photos of how he felt.

It was nearly impossible to get a photo of him as soon as his paw first hit the water! It is safe to say that this dog LOVES being in the water.

We spent about an hour at the river, Bruno went in, came out, rested along the shore, came for some cuddles, and then back out into the water. He never pulled us, respected the length of the leash and was an all around good dog. I'm glad we took him, as I am now comfortable to take him out on more adventures, with my husband but also by myself.

What a majestic sea creature!

It was a bit hard to convince Bruno that it was time to leave (see below photo as evidence). He kept pretending he had no idea what I was saying, and kept trying to convince me to go back into the water.

This pup had loads of energy, but once we were back in the car he dozed off on the way home, head still hanging out the window.
He was such a nice addition to our night adventure, and we would take him again anytime.

Here's to hoping Bruno finds his furever family soon, he so deserves it!

10 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HELP ANIMALS IN NEED

If you're anything like me, you have a real soft spot for animals, especially those who haven't been treated fairly. Ever felt helpless, wondering what you can do to help?  Well lucky for you, I've got a list of 10 easy things you can do to make a real difference in the lives of the animals who need your help.  (this little guy was named Samson. A volunteer from  Megan's Rescue Efforts  called about a tiny little pup they found who was in terrible shape! This photo was taken during Samson's first few days at the rescue. Wait until you see the handsome pup he was transformed into!!) 1. ADOPT Although this seems like a no brainer, it still needs to be said. There are hundreds of animals waiting in a shelter to find their forever homes, and believe it or not, there are purebreds as well. Staff and volunteers work tirelessly to learn the personalities of each animal, and work to make the best matches between adopter and animal. This is a life time commitm

SUNDAY FUNDAY WITH VIVIAN AND JAKE

It has been a while since our last adventure, so we decided today was the perfect day to get some quality self-care time in the books before Jake heads out of town for work again.  Following the most up-and-down Summer of our lives, our Fall didn't slow down much at all with school, starting my own cleaning business, starting practicum, and Jake's work getting super busy, taking him out of town.  With that said, the snow finally melted (somewhat), and the temperature warmed up, so it was a perfect day to grab an adventure partner, and explore a part of Fish Creek Park that we have never been to.  We messaged Megan, suited up for an adventure and picked up sweet Vivian (pictured above).  Vivian is a 7 month old pup who was picked up in Morley, suspected of being dumped by her previous owners. We don't know much of her back story, but we are determined to help her create a more adventurous, happy, and loving future.  Throughout the car ride, Vivian sat in t

OUR FOSTER FAIL, OUR HOUSE COW

The beginning of Sasha's story is not the most glamorous, she was brought into the rescue because she was pregnant and the owners no longer wanted her. When she arrived, all I remember thinking was "another mostly black cat, she'll be hard to get adopted..." You see, Sasha was not ever one to want any human interaction, even more so when she had her kittens. She would allow you to pet her, but she was never one to seek out the attention.  None the less as her kittens grew they developed their own spunky personalities, and we took 2 of them in as our fosters (Bailey & Marlin, see below).  Marlin here was already pending adoption when we got him in our care, and it didn't take long to figure out why. This little guy was full of personality, and never ever turned down a cuddle.  Bailey however wasn't getting any interest until the day that she climbed next to the food bag and sat there, looking like a mirror image of the cat on the cat food
